Nasdaq Files to List Binary Options on Nasdaq 100 in Prediction Markets Push
Nasdaq has submitted a proposal to the SEC to list binary options tied to the Nasdaq 100 and its micro index, marking a significant move into the event prediction markets. These Outcome-Related Options will function as straightforward yes-or-no bets on specific events, trading between 1 cent and $1. The Nasdaq 100, which includes tech giants like Apple and Nvidia, will be the focal point of this initiative.
The prediction markets industry, however, faces growing political scrutiny. Lawmakers are increasingly critical of such platforms, particularly those allowing speculative wagers on geopolitical events. Regulatory uncertainty looms as the sector expands beyond its origins in political forecasting during the 2024 U.S. presidential race.
